Choosing a CRM

Does HubSpot have an MCP, and what can it do?

Yes, and unlike plenty of servers announced this year it can write as well as read. Two things are worth knowing before you plan anything around it. There are two HubSpot MCP servers and only one of them is for your CRM. And the limits that will actually frustrate a sales team are not in what it can change, they are in what it can be asked.

Read from HubSpot’s own developer documentation on 15 October 2026.

First, which server

There are two, and they are not alternatives

Most articles about this describe one and link the other. They are built for different people.

The remote MCP server runs at mcp.hubspot.com and is the one that reaches your CRM. It publishes 31 public tools covering records, properties, pipelines, owners, campaigns, conversations, intent signals, marketing email, content and HubSpot’s answer-engine-optimisation features. This is the server a sales team means.

The developer MCP server is a local tool for building HubSpot apps and CMS assets. It is genuinely useful if you are developing against HubSpot, and it will not help anyone asking where their pipeline went this month.

If you are following a setup guide and it begins with installing a package locally, you are on the developer one. The CRM server is connected through an MCP connector you create in HubSpot itself.

What it can actually do

It writes, and it says so first

Each row read from HubSpot's documentation on 15 October 2026. Where the server does something well, this page says so.

What HubSpot's remote MCP server reads and writes, by area

Two things deserve credit here. Writing is real rather than announced, and the write path shows you a summary of what it intends to do before it does it, which is the behaviour you want and not every vendor builds. HubSpot also note that several tools require explicit confirmation before they write.

Access follows the installing user’s HubSpot permissions rather than giving the assistant an identity of its own, which is the correct model. It is also the model Empiraa GPS uses, so this is a point of agreement rather than a difference.

Where it will frustrate a sales team

The limits are in the asking, not the writing

HubSpot publish these. They are easy to miss because nobody expects the constraint to be on the query side.

  • No joins, and no association traversal. The documentation for query_crm_data rules out joins, subqueries, column aliases, association traversal and currency conversion. So a question that walks from a company to its deals to the last activity on each is not one query, and may not be assemblable at all.
  • No vector search. Search results come from the CRM search API, which HubSpot note does not include vector search. “Find me companies like my best customer” is therefore not a search this server can run, however it is phrased.
  • Paged, capped results. Up to five filter groups with six filters each and 200 results a page on search_crm_objects; up to 100 IDs a request on get_crm_objects; up to 100 owners; up to five keywords on a property search. Fine for a question, awkward for a sweep.
  • Scopes move under you. You do not choose scopes directly. They follow the tools present at installation and what the user granted, and HubSpot say users must reinstall to receive new scopes after an update.
  • Some tools need a paid hub. The answer-engine-optimisation tools require Marketing Hub Professional or Enterprise, quotes are in beta and require Revenue Hub Professional or Enterprise, and custom pipeline creation is not available on free tools.
  • Some tools are client-specific. HubSpot list manage_website_page, manage_blog_post and render_asset as available only for Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini.

None of these are reasons to avoid it. They are reasons to test the three questions your team actually asks before you build a process on it, because the cross-object question is the one most likely to come back thin.

What it means for a buying decision

An MCP is a tiebreaker, not a reason

It changes how you reach a CRM. It does not change what the CRM does for you.

If HubSpot is already on your shortlist, its MCP is a genuine point in its favour and the write path is better than most. If HubSpot is on your list because it has an MCP, that is the wrong order: the questions about pipeline, outreach, what the thing costs at your headcount and whether anyone will keep it up to date all outrank it.

It is also worth separating the two capabilities people conflate. Reaching your CRM from an assistant is an MCP question. Finding companies that resemble your best customer is a product question, and the similarity search behind it is exactly what the MCP limits above exclude. Signal does the second one as a standing search, which is a different thing from being able to ask about it.

Signal’s own MCP is in build and not shipped at the time of writing, so this page makes no claim about it. Empiraa GPS shipped one in 1.22, and the access model there is the one Signal will use: it acts as the person asking, changes are labelled as made through an assistant, bulk changes are previewed, most changes can be undone for seven days, and an administrator sets Off, View only or Full for the organisation.

For the rest of the comparison, Signal and HubSpot compared covers pricing, seats and what each does out of the box, and a CRM that finds leads for you covers the sourcing question. Daily Spark is the standing search itself.

Questions people actually ask

HubSpot's MCP, answered

Does HubSpot have an MCP server?

Yes, two of them, and they do different jobs. The remote MCP server at mcp.hubspot.com is the one for CRM data, exposing 31 public tools for records, properties, pipelines, campaigns, conversations and content. A separate developer MCP server is for building HubSpot apps and CMS assets locally and is not what a sales team wants. HubSpot's own documentation.

Can HubSpot’s MCP create and update records, or only read them?

It writes. The manage_crm_objects tool creates and updates records and activities, and presents a summary of the proposed changes before it applies them. Several other tools write too, covering segments, custom properties, custom pipelines, campaigns, marketing email, landing pages, website pages and blog posts. That is more than most CRMs shipping an MCP today can do.

What can HubSpot’s MCP not do?

The limits that matter to a sales team are in querying rather than writing. HubSpot document that query_crm_data supports no joins, no subqueries, no column aliases, no association traversal and no currency conversion, and that search results come from the CRM search API, which does not include vector search. So a question that spans objects, or a similarity search such as finding companies that resemble your best customer, is not something the server can assemble.

Whose permissions does the HubSpot MCP use?

The installing user’s. Access follows that person’s HubSpot permissions rather than a separate identity for the assistant, which is the right model and the same one Empiraa uses. HubSpot also note that Sensitive Data settings block activity and conversation data from coming through the server at all.

How do you connect it, and does it need scopes?

You create an MCP connector in HubSpot under Development, then MCP Connectors, and use its client ID, client secret and redirect URL in your MCP client. Authentication is OAuth and PKCE is required. You do not pick scopes directly: the available scopes depend on the tools present at installation and on what the user grants, and after an update users have to reinstall to receive new scopes.

Does it need a paid HubSpot plan?

Parts of it do. HubSpot document that the answer-engine-optimisation tools require Marketing Hub Professional or Enterprise, that quotes are in beta and require Revenue Hub Professional or Enterprise plus an optional manage revenue objects scope, and that creating custom pipelines is not supported on free tools, although the default pipeline can be edited.

Does Empiraa Signal have an MCP?

Not at the time of writing. Signal’s MCP is in build. Empiraa GPS shipped one in version 1.22, so the access model we will use is already published and running: it acts as the person asking, every change it makes is labelled as made through an assistant, bulk changes are previewed before saving, most changes can be undone for seven days, and an administrator sets assistants to Off, View only or Full for the whole organisation. What an MCP actually is.

Is an MCP a reason to choose a CRM?

On its own, no. An MCP changes how you reach the data in a CRM and not what the CRM does for you, so it is worth weighing after the questions about pipeline, outreach and cost rather than before them. It is a reasonable tiebreaker between two products you would otherwise be happy with. Signal and HubSpot compared.

Where these claims come from

Both read on 15 October 2026. HubSpot ship changes to this server regularly, so check the date before relying on a row.

  • HubSpot, integrate with the remote HubSpot MCP server for the endpoint, the 31 public tools and their names, the write behaviour and the proposed-changes summary, OAuth with PKCE, scopes following installation, permissions following the installing user, the Sensitive Data exclusion, the hub requirements and every query and paging limit quoted above.
  • HubSpot, developer MCP server for the second server, which is the local tool for building apps and CMS assets.

Tool counts and names are HubSpot’s own. Where a tool is listed above as not exposed, that means it was not in the documented list on the date read rather than that HubSpot have said it never will be.
