Website visitor identification

See which companies are on your website.

Signal names the organisation behind a visit, usually inside a minute, and matches it to the Account or prospect company you already hold. It names companies rather than people, and only those running their own network.

Included on every plan: 250 companies a month on Launch, 5,000 on Command. 14 days free.

The problem with anonymous traffic

The companies deciding about you never fill in the form.

They read the pricing page, they read a comparison, they talk about it internally, and none of that reaches the person who would have called them.

Three ways it costs you

A form is the only thing you hear about

Everyone who was interested enough to read and not quite ready to ask is invisible, which is most of them. You find out about the ones who were already convinced.

Analytics counts sessions, not accounts

Your analytics can tell you that the pricing page did well this week. It cannot tell you that the account your rep has been working read it twice on Tuesday.

By the time they call, they have decided

The research happens before the conversation. Knowing it is happening is the difference between joining a decision and being told about one.

How it works

One line on your site, and the company lands on the record.

What happens

One line, or your tag manager

Add Signal’s tracking script to your website once, either as a single line or through the Google Tag Manager template if that is how the site is managed. There is nothing else to sign up for and nothing else to log into, because Signal does the identification itself.
  • One line of script, or the Google Tag Manager template
  • No second service, no second login, no second bill
  • Set the consent mode per website before anything is recorded

What you see about a company

The company name and its website, the pages they read, how many visits they have made, and when they were first and last seen. Enough to tell a first look from a third one, which is the difference that matters.
  • Company name and website domain
  • Pages viewed, number of visits, first and last seen
  • Whether the company is one of your target accounts

Matched to the record you already hold

The company is matched by domain to the Account or prospect company already in your workspace, so a visit from an account your team is working shows up against that account rather than as a separate thing to reconcile. This is the part a separate visitor tool cannot do, because it does not hold your pipeline.
  • Matched by domain to an Account or prospect company
  • Target accounts stand out from the rest
  • No export, no sync, no second system of record

The person who owns the account hears about it

Whoever the company is Assigned To can be alerted that a company on their list is on the website, and a visit can start an Autopilot workflow: a follow-up Action, a sequence, an assignment. The visit stops being a report somebody reads on Friday.
  • Alert the person the account is Assigned To
  • Trigger Autopilot workflows from a visit
  • Create follow-up Actions or start a sequence

How Autopilot works

And it moves the Signal Score

A website visit is one of the activities Signal Score counts, with its own points, its own cap and its own half-life, all of which you can see and change. So a company reading your site does not only appear in a list, it changes how warm the contacts on that account look.
  • Website visits score alongside opens, clicks and replies
  • Points, cap and half-life all editable
  • Machine opens and security scanners never count

How Signal Score works

The activity table of the Signal Score model in Empiraa Signal, giving points each, the most it can add and a half-life in days for clicks, opens, replies, website visits, form submissions, bookings, deck and proposal views and connected calls

Every plan has every feature. The difference between them is volume.

What it does not do

The three limits, before you find them yourself.

Every tool in this category has these. Most of them put this section at the bottom of a help article.

Stated upfront

It names companies, not people

You learn that an organisation was on the site, never who. A person is named only when they click a link in a Signal email or submit one of your forms, because then they have told you.

Not every visit can be named

Only organisations that run their own network can be identified, which in practice means mid-size and larger. Someone on home Wi-Fi, mobile data, a VPN or a small-business connection stays anonymous.

It stays inside the consent you set

The script follows the consent mode you choose for each website, writes no cookie, and never uses a visitor’s full network address, only a shortened form shared by everyone on that network.

Getting it on your site

Three steps, and the first one is the only work.

From script to record

  1. Step 1

    Add the script

One line on your website, or the Google Tag Manager template. Set the consent mode for that site at the same time.

  2. Step 2

    Someone visits

Signal reads the network the visit came from and names the organisation behind it, usually inside a minute.

  3. Step 3

    It lands on the record

The company appears under Marketing, Website, matched by domain to the Account or prospect company you already hold, ready to alert or to trigger a workflow.

What each plan includes

Companies identified, by plan.

On every plan, for the whole team, with no credits to buy. This is the part of the comparison worth reading twice: elsewhere in this category identification is sold as a credit pack on top of the subscription.

Per calendar month

Companies identified on your own website each month, by Empiraa Signal plan
PlanCompanies identified a month
Free trial10 companies
Launch, $99 a month250 companies
Drive, $249 a month1,000 companies
Command, $549 a month5,000 companies

A company counts once a calendar month, however many times it visits. Visits that cannot be matched to an organisation do not count against the allowance. At the allowance the visits are still recorded. Identification resumes at the start of the next month, or as soon as you move up a plan.

Questions

Questions about website visitor identification

Does it tell me which person visited?

No. It names the organisation behind the visit, never the individual. A person is identified only when they click a link in a Signal email or submit one of your forms, because at that point they have identified themselves to you.

Which visits can you actually identify?

Visits from organisations that run their own network, which in practice means mid-size companies and larger. Someone browsing on home Wi-Fi, mobile data, a VPN or a small-business internet connection stays anonymous. Those visits are still recorded as traffic, and they are not counted against your monthly allowance.

How long does it take to identify a company?

Usually about a minute from the visit.

How many companies can I identify a month?

10 on the free trial, 250 on Launch, 1,000 on Drive and 5,000 on Command. A company counts once a calendar month, however many times it visits. At the allowance the visits are still recorded. Identification resumes at the start of the next month, or as soon as you move up a plan. See Signal pricing.

Do I need a cookie banner for it?

The script writes no cookie and no local storage, and it honours Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track without being asked. You choose the consent mode per website: Required waits for a visitor to agree before anything is recorded, and Notice records unless they object. It never uses a visitor’s full network address, only a shortened form that everyone on that network shares.

Is this a separate service I have to sign up for?

No. Signal does the identification, so there is one subscription, one login and nothing else to buy. The companies appear in your own workspace under Marketing, Website, rather than in another tool you would have to connect.

How does this compare to buyer intent in HubSpot?

It is the same kind of identification, with the same honest limit that it names organisations rather than people. Two things differ. It is included on every Signal plan rather than bought as credits on top of the subscription, and the company arrives matched to the Account you already hold, because the pipeline is in the same database rather than on the other side of a sync. Signal compared with HubSpot.

Can a website visit trigger something automatically?

Yes. Whoever the company is Assigned To can be alerted that they are on the site, and a visit can start an Autopilot workflow, which can create a follow-up Action, start a sequence or assign the company to someone.
