A CRM where the software writes, summarises, enriches or ranks instead of only storing. The label is now on almost every product, so the question worth asking is not whether it has AI. It is what the AI is reading.
Every CRM is an AI CRM in 2026. The term has stopped sorting products, which means buyers need a different question.
What the features actually are
| Feature | What it does | How much it helps |
|---|---|---|
| Drafting | Writes the email or the follow-up | Real time saving, a person checks it |
| Summarising | Condenses a call, a thread, an account history | The most undersold feature in the category |
| Capture | Logs activity from email and calls automatically | The one that most improves the record |
| Enrichment | Fills in company size, sector, technology | Useful, verifiable, wrong in obvious ways |
| Scoring | Ranks who to contact next | Only if you can see why |
| Forecasting | Predicts what closes | Treat with suspicion until proven on your data |
The third row is the one that matters most and gets demoed least. Automatic capture is the only feature here that makes the record more complete rather than doing something clever with a record that was already incomplete.
The question that actually decides it
What is the AI reading?
Every feature above runs on what your team entered. If activity is logged inconsistently, if deals are updated on a Friday from memory, if half the business has no licence and works from their inbox, then the AI is summarising a partial record and producing fluent, confident output from it.
That is worse than no summary, because the gaps are invisible. A person reading a thin CRM record can see it is thin. A generated summary of a thin record reads exactly like a generated summary of a complete one.
The two features to interrogate hardest
Scoring. Ask to see the points, the caps, the half-life and the band thresholds. If the vendor cannot show you, your reps will work the list for a month, find three counterexamples, and quietly go back to the account names they recognise. A model that is 70% accurate and arguable beats one that is 85% accurate and opaque. The full argument is in can you read your own lead scoring model.
Anything built on email opens. Apple Mail Privacy Protection prefetches tracking pixels, so a majority of recorded opens in 2026 are machines rather than people. A score or trigger reading opens is partly ranking mail servers, which is covered in Apple fakes most of your email opens.
Before you buy anything
Three checks, in this order.
Is the record complete? If not, fix that first. It is unglamorous and it is the whole foundation.
Who is locked out? Per-seat pricing decides who can see the record, and the people priced out are usually the ones at the edges of a deal holding context that changes how it should be handled. That mechanism is in what per-seat pricing does to the way a team uses its CRM.
Can you inspect the outputs? Specifically the ones that rank or predict.
Where Empiraa Signal stands
Empiraa Signal is a CRM and more: the prospect database, the enrichment, the sequencer, the booking link and the proposals in one system, with ANI built into the platform rather than sold as a separate seat, and unlimited users on every plan so nobody is kept out of the record.
The position on scoring is deliberately unfashionable. Signal Score shows its points, caps, half-lives and band thresholds and lets you edit them, and machine opens never count. A score exists to win an argument with a sceptical rep, and it cannot win an argument it cannot take part in.
